Rock Skills Learn to Lead Sport Climbs - 2 Days

Who is it for     

This course is also perfect if you are ready to progress to leading sport routes outside, if you are looking to improve your lead rock climbing confidence or refresh your leading skills. This course does not cover the skills required for leading Trad routes. 

You must have completed 20 indoor or outdoor routes on walls or outdoor crags, which includes the belaying of a climber on 20 occasions before registering for this course.


What does a Rock Skills Learn to Lead Sport Climbs Course Cover?

     

  • Choosing suitable venues and routes, how to use guidebooks and mobile devices to find crags and routes, crag etiquette, the importance of the climbing partnership, the work of the mountaineering councils.
  • Safe and assured movement when lead climbing and optimising natural rests for clipping bolts.
  • Ropes and technical equipment for sport climbing.
  • Fixed equipment, anchors, ropework, belaying, holding/taking falls in a controlled environment, lowering, lower offs and abseiling.
  • The impact of climbers at the crag, ethics, access and environmental considerations for climbers.
  • Identifying hazards, decision making and managing risk, understanding common injuries, what to do in the event of an incident, managing common problems, how to get help and the role of the Mountain Rescue.


Accreditation

Our Rock Skills courses are accredited by Mountain Training.  If you wish to receive accreditation for this course, you'll need to register with Mountain Training www.mountain-training.org  Registration is free for under 18s and £20 for adults.


Alternatively, we can do this for you. Just select 'Register me with Mountain Training' during the booking process.
