The winter mountain environment can be a brutal and beautiful place all at the same time. We'll teach you crampon and ice-axe skills to move confidently. And give you the knowledge needed to make those critical mountaineering decisions to keep you safe.

Winter Skills Courses

Introduction to Winter Skills - 1 day

Mountains in winter covered in snow and ice.  Two walkers wearing crampons and ice axe.

 This  introduction to winter skills will give you a taste of the mountains in  real winter conditions. We'll introduce the ice axe and crampons, basic  winter navigation, snow knowledge, extra kit needed for the winter and a  whole lot more. This 1 day course runs in the Lake District.

Intermediate Winter Skills - 2 days

 Intermediate winter skills takes it a bit further. We'll work on movement on steep ground, ice axe self arrest, emergency snow shelters, avalanche awareness, navigating in poor visibility and more. This 2 day course  runs in the Lake District.  

Scottish Winter Skills - 3 days

 This 3 day epic will give you the opportunity to cover all of the  intermediate winter skills before putting those new skills into practice  on some classic Scottish Winter routes. This course runs in the  Cairngorms.
