Mount Toubkal 4167m

Mt Toubkal Winter Expedition

Mt Toubkal Winter Expedition - 7 Days

Expedition Overview

Rising to 4,167 m, Jbel Toubkal is the highest mountain in North Africa and one of the most accessible 4,000-metre peaks in the world. Our Winter Toubkal Expedition offers an outstanding introduction to high-altitude winter mountaineering in the dramatic setting of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains.

While Toubkal is often described as a non-technical trekking peak in summer, winter conditions transform the ascent into a true mountaineering challenge. Snow, ice, and steep terrain mean that ice axe and crampons are essential. This expedition is ideal for those looking to bridge the gap between winter hillwalking and high altitude mountaineering.

We spend five days in the mountains, including two full days based at the CAF Refuge, allowing for safe acclimatisation, skills development, and flexibility around weather conditions. This itinerary gives us a two-day summit window, maximising your chances of a successful and enjoyable ascent of Jbel Toubkal.

Throughout the expedition you’ll learn about:

  • Safe acclimatisation and recognising altitude sickness
  • Winter movement with ice axe and crampons
  • Working with local guides, muleteers, and porters
  •  Life in high-altitude mountain refuges

These skills form a strong foundation for future expeditions in the Alps, Andes, Himalaya, and other major mountain ranges.

Why Choose Us For Your Winter Toubkal Expedition

Winter Toubkal is a mountaineering trip, not just a trek. Choosing the right team makes a real difference to both your safety and the quality of the experience.

Our expeditions are led by UK-qualified mountain professionals with extensive experience in Scottish winter, alpine-style terrain, and the High Atlas. Winter conditions on Toubkal can involve steep snow, ice, crampon work, and serious decision-making — this is the environment we specialise in.

Strong local partnerships. We work closely with trusted, long-established local High Atlas guides, muleteers, and hut staff. This partnership ensures excellent local knowledge, smooth logistics, and fair employment — while maintaining high guiding standards throughout the trip.

Skills-focused, not just summit-focused. Reaching the summit matters, but how you get there matters more. We place a strong emphasis on:

  • Safe movement with ice axe and crampons
  • Understanding snow conditions and terrain choice
  • Efficient pacing and decision making at altitude

You’ll come away with real transferable winter mountaineering skills and a 4000m summit with some amazing photos.
